“There was a bit of a problem.”
Choi Ki-seok briefly summarized what had happened so far.
This means that the other person insulted his character first and then attacked him.
“Look. Do you believe what he’s saying? He started a fight with us and threw Jake on the shelf.”
“Ron’s right. We’re the ones who got hit!”
Ron supported Jake, and Jake helped out.
The employees began talking with serious expressions on both sides of the story.
“Look. This person’s story is correct. Those people were the first to criticize.”
“I clearly heard it called Yellow Monkey too.”
“You shameless bastards. You are covering up your sins.”
As the onlookers took Choi Ki-seok’s side, Ron and Jake frowned.
“Is there any reason to waste time? All I have to do is look at the CCTV.”
“Good. All three of you, please follow us.”
An employee nodded at Choi Ki-seok’s words.
Soon, the CCTV was checked in the management office.
“Mr. Choi. We apologize for the inconvenience. You are welcome to go. If you go to the service center, we will give you a special reward, so be sure to take it.”
“….”
“You two, please stay. I have something to say about compensation.”
Ron and Jake lowered their heads at the employee’s words.
Choi Ki-seok left the management office and received a shopping bag. And then I put the things I bought into the trunk of the car.
Finally, the difficult first outing was over.
Hearing racial slurs was annoying, but thinking about how they would be punished eased my emotions somewhat.
“hey.”
Suddenly a woman spoke.
A face that somehow looks familiar.
“You are the one who took my side earlier. Thank you.”
“Well, I was just telling the truth. You may have experienced something bad, but don’t think that there are only people like that in America. There are many people who are kind to foreigners.”
“You mean someone like that?”
The woman smiled shyly at his words.
“I heard what you said. Then I’ll leave.”
“Yes. Bye.”
Choi Ki-seok returned home after talking with the woman.
After organizing the things I bought, there was nothing left to do.
While killing time on the mattress, I grabbed my cell phone.
Bleep. Bleep.
[babe. [I missed you.]
Jeong Seol-hwa said in a anxious voice as soon as she answered the phone.
“Me too. So these days, when I sleep, I only dream of snowflake?”
[Tch. That’s a lie.]
Jeong Seol-hwa pretended to pout and turned her head. Because we made a video call, I was able to watch all of their facial expressions and actions.
“Isn’t that a lie? I swear to heaven.”
[Then I will believe you. Did you see the interview?]
“The interview will be the day after tomorrow. I have a letter of recommendation from the professor and I prepared well, so I won’t fail.”
[Your USMLE score is almost perfect, and your TOEFL score is almost perfect. I really don’t think that will happen.]
Jeong Seol-hwa took a pause and then continued.
[Actually, I also had bad thoughts. I was wondering what if you fail the interview and come back to Korea. It was really bad, right?]
“It’s okay. I understand how you feel.”
[It’s because I’m not okay. I promised to support you until the end of your path.]
“That’s it, take care of it.”
Choi Ki-seok quickly changed the topic.
Because I didn’t want Jeong Seol-hwa to feel guilty anymore.
[Ah… Is that so? If that’s the case, let’s show it at the same time.]
“Okay. One, two, three!”
At Choi Ki-seok’s shout, two people reached out to the camera.
Both of them were wearing couple rings on their fingers.
“Oh. Our folk tale is quite good.”
[It’s not quite right, but it’s natural. I don’t take it off when I sleep or when I wash. I wear it all day.]
“Me too. Although I won’t be able to do it later when I go into the operating room.”
[That’s okay.]
There was silence for a moment, but Jeong Seol-hwa was the first to speak.
[I love you.]
“I love you more.”
Jeong Seol-hwa’s cheeks turned red at his words.
After a while, Choi Ki-seok finished the call and looked down at his phone.
Just talking for a moment warmed my heart.
I felt like I could endure any hardship if only Jeong Seol-hwa believed in me.
Ding dong!
As I was leaving the living room, the doorbell rang.
When I opened the door and stuck my head out, I saw my neighbor Kim Hye-jin.
“hello.”
“Yes. Hello. I made sake bread at home. Please try it.”
“thank you.”
Choi Ki-seok received a tray filled with alcohol and bread. As I brought my face close to the alcoholic bread, a unique scent irritated my nose.
I never thought I would drink and eat bread in America.
“If it’s okay, could you come in for a moment? I’d like to treat you to something.”
“I’ll just take my heart. I have a lot of work to do.”
Hyejin Kim smiled.
thud!
“Aaaah!”
Loud noises and crying were mixed together.
The two headed to the source of the sound without worrying about who would go first.
Kim Hye-jin’s daughter Jin Hye-yeon was sitting on the stairs and crying.
“Hye-yeon! It’s okay!”
Kim Hye-jin consoled Jin Hye-yeon and examined her wounds. The rest of the body was fine, but there was a long tear on the top of the head. My heart sank as the blood flowed from the open wound.
“Let’s go to my house.”
Choi Ki-seok took the mother and daughter and took them home. And the wound was disinfected using the emergency kit that Song Myeong-jin purchased.
‘It’s a blessing in disguise.’
I used the Eye of Hippocrates and breathed a sigh of relief.
The wound was limited to the surface of the head. No internal injuries such as acute subdural hemorrhage were observed.
“The wound is deep. Disinfection alone is not enough, I need stitches.”
“Do I need stitches? Do I need to go to the hospital?”
Kim Hye-jin was restless and did not know what to do.
The United States is a place where just getting treatment for a cold and taking medicine can cost you hundreds of thousands of won.
I don’t know how much money would be lost if it were to be sutured.
I hated myself for worrying about money, but I couldn’t just ignore reality.
“No, you don’t have to go.”
“Huh? You just said you needed stitches, right?”
“I’m not saying you have to go to the hospital.”
Choi Ki-seok smiled and stared at Jin Hye-yeon.
Jin Hye-yeon suddenly stopped crying. When the topic of the hospital came up, he looked scared.
“Hye-yeon. I’ll treat your brother so it doesn’t hurt.”
“Then you don’t have to go to the hospital?”
“Of course. If you have a cell phone, could you play a video or something?”
“Ah yes.”
When Kim Hye-jin played a video of the prisoners on her cell phone, Jin Hye-yeon became quiet.
Meanwhile, Choi Ki-seok moved behind Jin Hye-yeon’s back.
First, I straightened the hair on both sides of the wound, held it in my hands, and made a basic knot.
When I pulled the knot just enough, a stitched spot appeared over the wound.
It’s called a hair knot.
“Hye-yeon, are you sick?”
“no.”
“Stay still and don’t move like you are now.”
Choi Ki-seok calmly repeated the same method.
As time passed, an elaborate knot was created around the wound that looked like it had been sewn with sutures.
Talk. Talk. Talk.
The treatment ended with dropping the wound suture adhesive.
Tiring!
[You have completed the hidden mission ‘First medical treatment abroad.’ We offer
500 P.P. as compensation
.] “That’s it now. Hyeyeon can’t wash her hair for the next four days. After four days, the bond will wear off and the wound will stick, so you can live your life as usual.”
“thank you sir.”
Hyejin Kim bowed her head.
“No. I was lucky. If Hyeyeon had short hair, she wouldn’t have been able to tie a knot.”
“What can you say? If the teacher wasn’t there, I would have gone to the hospital without moving… Hyeyeon should also say hello to the teacher.”
“thank you.”
Jin Hye-yeon stood up and gave a belly bow.
Choi Ki-seok smiled brightly at her cute appearance.
Suddenly, I thought it would be nice to have such a cute daughter.
* * *
The next afternoon.
Choi Ki-seok drove his car and headed to Mayjo Clinic.
There is a long-awaited interview today.
Although I prepared thoroughly, I couldn’t help but feel nervous when the day arrived.
Isn’t the place you will be working at the world’s Mayjo Clinic?
I had no idea what challenges would await me during the interview.
He arrived at the parking lot, parked his car, and stood in front of the main building.
I started walking only after repeating my self-introduction in my head and checking the expected questions.
‘what?’
A little distance away from the entrance, an old man was staggering.
He must have been homeless, but his face was dirty and his clothes were poor. A few people looked at him like Choi Ki-seok, but he soon ignored them and went his own way.
“Elder, are you okay?”
Choi Ki-seok quickly approached and helped the old man.
“Who is that?”
“That’s not important. Aren’t you sick?”
“It hurts. My stomach hurts so much.”
The old man frowned and clutched his stomach.
“Did you eat anything wrong yesterday?”
“Nothing like that. But who are you?”
“I’m a doctor who was passing by. I couldn’t stand by and watch the old man stumble.”
Ki-Seok Choi carefully laid the old man down on the bench and then used the Eye of Hippocrates. Surprisingly, there was no eye disease in Stage 3 Hippocrates.
The old man was health itself.
Not only did he not have any psychiatric problems, but his symptoms included no abdominal pain at all.
“Oh my. I’m dying from pain.”
The old man lay down on the bench, groaning.
Choi Ki-seok looked down at the old man for a while and then smiled.
The reason Hippocrates couldn’t see anything was something I realized later.
“I’m a doctor, so just go on your way. I’m going to die from pain.”
“I can’t do that.”
Choi Ki-seok desperately attempted to interview the annoyed old man. And I tried pressing various parts of my abdomen.
“It hurts! It hurts! You’re going to kill me!”
When I pressed his lower right abdomen, the old man jumped up.
“The elderly man is suspected of having appendicitis. He must seek medical attention quickly.”
“Appendicitis? What is that?”
“There is a part called the appendix where the large intestine begins. Inflammation there is called appendicitis. I don’t have time to explain, so let’s go quickly.”
After soothing the old man well, Choi Gi-seok put him on his back. Then we went to the emergency room of the main building and helped make medical appointments.
“I don’t have money? Can I get treatment?”
“Yes. You can get help later from a place called the Medical Support Team. For now, just think about treatment.”
Choi Ki-seok left the emergency room after contacting the elderly man’s family.
When I suddenly checked the time, there were 10 minutes left in the interview.
As I hurriedly arrived at the interview location, the applicants who came first were preparing for the interview.
“My name is Kiseok Choi.”
“Confirmed. Please get your name badge.”
The female employee at the desk handed me a name tag.
His interview number is a whopping 150.
That means there are a whopping 150 competitors.
There are 50 residents to recruit in the second half of the year, so the competition rate is approximately 3:1.
“Is that why you came for the interview?”
As he sat down, the man sitting next to him frowned.
“At least spray some perfume. The smell is…”
“I’m sorry. Something happened on the way. If you have any perfume, can I borrow it?”
“I don’t have any,”
the man answered coldly.
Choi Ki-seok had no choice but to straighten his clothes in the bathroom.
His clothes were wrinkled and smelly from running while carrying an old man.
But as he stood in front of the mirror , A faint smile appeared on the corner of his mouth.
We will find out in a moment.
Who the real winner is.
Choi Ki-seok returned to the waiting room and prepared for the interview.
As time passed, the receptionist called the five applicants, including Choi Ki-seok.
In the middle seat . As I sat down, I saw the interviewers with blunt expressions.
There were a total of three interviewers, and Yasada was sitting in the center.
“Thank you for applying to the second half of the residency program at Meijo Clinic. The interview will begin now.”
The applicants dried up at the words of the interviewer. I swallowed.
