Episode 1459. I’m thinking of putting up a monument.
After the battle with Lord Paimon Grouse’s demon army the situation in the north changed drastically.
The demon army led by three monarchs has disappeared.
What remained in the north were a small group of demons and a group of demonic beasts that were suddenly freed from the control of the demon army.
The first to feel the change was the Escatos Kingdom Army the forefront of the Eastern Front.
The Escatos Kingdom army was so peaceful that the Raminov Kingdom army which retreated to this line would feel sick to its stomach if it found out.
The demons that I happened to encounter ran away without even being able to use ordinary magic guns.
There were many days where we only marched without engaging in a single battle.
As time passed encounters with demons gradually decreased.
After passing through the Kingdom of Alexis and entering the Kingdom of Barnard they were encountered once every three or four days.
Meeting a demon does not always result in a battle.
The small group of demons fled at the mere sight of the flag of the Escatos Kingdom army.
However when the number of demons exceeded a hundred they – it could almost be said – charged towards the human army.
Their opponent the human army the Western Army of Escatos Kingdom is strong enough to be said to be the strongest on the continent.
Of course the demons were defeated by the fighting tribes.
Some of the demons died and some escaped but many were captured.
Elio intended to free the prisoners from Tameion.
The captured demons traveled with the Escatos Kingdom army.
It is never easy for humans and demons to live together.
However since there was no way to release the demons to the north just by believing in the promise to ‘return to Tameion’ there was no other way.
As I dragged the demon around I often witnessed frightening things.
One of them is that ‘high-ranking demons prey on low-ranking demons’.
This may be due to the lack of food provided by humans but basically the demons ate the lower-level demons that were weaker than themselves without any hesitation.
Humans were disgusted by the sight of demons eating demons but other demons around them took it for granted.
Elio who was walking at the head of the western army tilted his head.
Chief of Staff Oscar Abid asked with a puzzled look.
“Why are you doing that?”
“The sky. “Don’t you think the nights are getting a little darker these days?”
“ah! “Is the midnight sun coming to an end?”
“Is it time for the midnight sun to end?”
“I don’t know about that. “There has never been a midnight sun phenomenon in the north before.”
“hmm. “Are you saying that strange events may continue to occur in the future?”
“It’s because of the influence of the black sun… so that’s entirely possible.”
“Surely the day won’t be as dark as the night?”
“Oh do you really have to do that?”
Contrary to his words Chief of Staff Abid looked up at the sky with anxious eyes.
Did the words become seeds?
A month later.
By the time the Escatos Kingdom army recovered the Barnard Kingdom the four-month midnight sun had disappeared and the polar night suddenly arrived.
Now it was dark day and night.
The speed of the Escatos Kingdom army which had been advancing rapidly also slowed down.
After the Kingdom of Barnard the Kingdom of Argon is followed by the Kingdom of Escatos.
Since the Kingdom of Escatos and Tameion border there is no such thing as a sudden disaster with the complete restoration of the north just around the corner.
Still the Escatos Kingdom army adapted to the darkness.
The release of large quantities of fire stones that had been stored at the 3rd Army Headquarters also played a role.
In fact since the Escatos Kingdom Army on the Eastern Front was the front-line attack force it always took priority in terms of supply.
Has a month passed like that?
Saying that ‘necessity is the mother of invention’ the wizards of the Magic Tower created something called a flashbang using fire stones.
When you attach a flashbang to a magic gun and fire it into the sky the surroundings become bright as daylight.
As flash bombs became available the 3rd Army’s advance speed increased again.
Finally the 3rd Army of the Eastern Front recovered the Kingdom of Argon and entered the Kingdom of Escatos.
The morale of the Escatos Kingdom army was higher than ever.
It is only natural that they have come to reclaim their homeland that was taken away by the demons.
The Escatos Kingdom was covered with demons and beasts left behind by demons.
The battle itself was not difficult but it was difficult to get proper rest.
This is because large-scale and small-scale battles continued without a break.
If it weren’t for the darkness I could have pushed it away in one go but if it weren’t for the flashbangs I couldn’t because I couldn’t see an inch in front of me.
Next to the darkness the thing that caused the 3rd Army’s headaches were low-intelligence monsters and beasts.
The smart ones felt danger from the human army and returned to Tameion but the bad guys foolishly kept their territory.
Even if they are driven out of their territory they build a nest in another area in suitable darkness.
It was like pressing one side of a balloon and the other side inflated.
Accordingly the 3rd Army had to subdue the demonic beasts step by step.
Subjugating demonic beasts in the dark was a long and arduous task.
Fortunately though the Escatos Kingdom Army the vanguard of the 3rd Army was able to penetrate the terrain.
The 3rd Army slowly but surely recovered the Kingdom of Escatos.
And finally after about three months they advanced to Hirhera which is adjacent to Tameion.
The 3rd Army established a camp at the former Hirhera Garrison.
The wooden buildings were all broken and useless but the stone buildings could be repaired and used.
The headquarters of the 3rd Army was established in Chrysopedio (Golden Field) a former inn and bar.
As the 3rd Army pushed out the demons and settled in Hirhera the 1st and 2nd Army headquarters which had been building a defense line also gathered in Hirhera.
After a half-year journey the restoration of the northern part of the country was completed.
The 3rd Army headquarters gave Chrysopedio to the Northern Kingdom Allied Forces headquarters and moved to another building.
The allied forces of the Northern Kingdoms gathered at Hirhera heated up as if they would attack Tameion at any moment.
Allied headquarters of the Northern Kingdom of Chrysopedio.
Operations conference room.
About twenty people sat across from each other across a long table.
These are key figures including the King of the Northern Kingdom.
King Theo Liberato III of the Kingdom of Baylem opened fire first.
“The Thameion beyond the ice wall has been a forbidden area for a long time. People have lived with a vague fear of Tameion. Now is the time to overcome that fear. “Why are we afraid of the demons of Tameon when we have the magic gun and Thanatos?”
King Marius Ruben of the Kingdom of Tallinn received the words in response.
“That’s right. I heard that in Tameion there are mana stones rolling around on the ground. The demons have invaded the north so what can’t we do? Let us push forward now that our northern kingdoms are together. “We may not be able to conquer all of Tameion but we will be able to capture at least part of it.”
It was a widely known story that ‘mana stones were rolling around in Tameion’.
Of course there is no objective data on that.
King Ronnie Harold of the Kingdom of Avalon said as he looked around his audience.
“I don’t think it’s a strategically bad opinion. Above all if we establish a surveillance post for the Northern Kingdom in Tameion we will be able to detect the movements of the demons faster than now.”
The kings of the Northern Kingdom shook their heads.
Surprisingly among them was Raminov III who lost half of his troops.
Liberato III of the Kingdom of Baylem spoke to the King of the Kingdom of Escatos.
“The Escatos Kingdom army achieved remarkable results in the 3rd Army this time. What do His Highness Escatos IV think?”
The kings’ eyes all turned towards Escatos IV.
In fact although they did not say anything everyone had in mind the Escatos Kingdom army especially the western army as the leader in the conquest of Tameion.
No honestly the conquest of Tameon was impossible without the Western Army.
There’s no way Escatos IV wouldn’t know that.
“I don’t know. The benefits that will come from conquering Tameon are good but I think now is the time to rebuild the north. Anyway the conquest of Tameon will only be possible if the Western Army takes the lead right? Since the commander of the Western Army is here I would like to ask his opinion. “What do you think Commander Lagoa?”
For a moment even the pounding noise quieted down.
And everyone paid attention to the mouth of Western Army Commander Elio Lagoa.
Elio slowly stood up.
“This is Elio Lagoa Commander of the Western Army.”
After completing the introduction Elio looked around his audience.
There are some people I met by chance but most of them are faces I’ve never seen before.
When Raminov III happened to make eye contact with Count Lagoa he lowered his furtive eyes.
Elio finally looked away from Raminov III.
“I fought a demon lord about four months ago. At that time the demon lord asked ‘Who are you?’ I answered: ‘I am the great warrior of the human race.’”
“oh!”
“yes!”
“indeed!”
“Excellent.”
“also!”
Exclamations flowed from the mouths of the northern kingdom’s kings and important figures.
When the commotion subsided Elio continued.
“I was a great warrior of the human race and fought to restore the North. However I have no intention of taking the lead in conquering Tameon. “I tell you in advance I will not set foot in Tameion.”
“….”
Contrary to the exclamation from earlier a heavy silence filled the conference room.
King Ruben of the Kingdom of Tallinn spoke cautiously.
“Count Lagoa the reason we are thinking about conquering Tameion is because we don’t know when the demons will invade the north again. The conquest of Tameion will be a strong warning from humans to the demons.”
Elio looked at him and asked.
“Isn’t it because the mana stone was rolling around on the ground?”
“Of course the Mana Stone is a side benefit… The original purpose of the conquest is to warn and monitor humans against demons.”
“I gave a warning to the demons of Tameon through the demon lord. If they invade the north they will trample Tameion. “I plan to erect a monument with that content in the corridor connecting Tameion and Hirhera.”
“A tombstone?”
“I will engrave my warning on the tombstone in the demon language and have the northern and neighboring demon lords sign it. “If we leave it at that level the demons will not be able to come over to the north.”
“The demons came over even when it was blocked by scutum (ice wall). “The fact that such demons are so frightened by a single tombstone that they don’t come…”
King Ruben was about to say ‘Isn’t this too naive?’
If the opponent had not been Count Lagoa he would have laughed at it but he did not dare say such a thing to the Grand Master.
“If the monument is erected the demon lords will not be able to invade like this time. High-ranking demon lords will sign there. “The strength of the Northern Kingdom’s army will be enough to deal with the remaining demons crossing the border.”
King Ruben did not object to Count Lagoa’s assurance.
It’s not because I believe it but because I don’t have the courage to oppose it in front of Count Lagoa.
Due to Count Lagoa’s refusal the plan to conquer Tameion came to nothing.
After a while as the conversation turned to discussion of academics Elio quietly left the conference room.
Elio went out into the street and started walking towards his camp.
At that time I heard a familiar sound from behind me.
“Count Lagoa?”
For a moment Elio paused.
It was a beautiful woman’s voice but I couldn’t immediately remember who it was.
When Elio turned around a young lady emerged from the darkness.
