Helmut

Episode 17

‘I was lucky.’

Helmut thought.

Attacks by monsters were more frequent than expected. The village’s security was tight, but Helmut, who was not a monster, infiltrated smoothly.

Surrounded by actively moving demonic energy, Helmut hid his presence and kept his eyes on Erugo’s direction. Waiting for the moment when Erugo moves alone.

Before waiting long, Erugo moved as Helmut had intended.

There is only one moment of tension as Erugo leaves the shelter protected by the magic circle and enters the laboratory. That was enough.

‘I didn’t know the opportunity would come so soon.’

But it’s not over yet. Until he got what he wanted and escaped Naho’s territory.

With his sword pointed at his back, Erugo slowly moved into the lab.

Helmut watched the back of the stooped old man obediently going through the library.

‘Cut if necessary.’

Just thinking about the word murder is something Helmut cannot resist. He has already cut down a monster.

Helmut did not really realize the difference between monsters and humans. Is it the difference between being able to eat meat or not? That subtle discomfort. Will cutting down a human make you feel something?

While searching through the library, Erugo quietly opened his mouth.

“What is your name?”

I have heard that Erugo is cunning and resourceful. I had no intention of being tempted by useless words.

“I don’t need to know.”

“Well, okay. But let me give you a piece of advice. The way out is just a theory. It’s an unproven theory worth risking your life for. “Is it really worth throwing away my young life for something in vain?”

“not there yet?”

Erugo continued speaking calmly, glancing sideways at Helmut, who was pointing his sword at him without any sign of hearing.

“No one had ever tried it. Of course, there were only a few who had the ability to try. Darian might have been able to get out, but he didn’t. Since you came here, what happened to Darian? Have you decided to go out together?”

Erugo grinned when he saw Helmut showing agitation in his eyes for the first time.

“No. “Darian is dead!”

It was a flash of realization. Darian’s disciple. He looks talented, but he’s still young. It would be better for Darian to sneak in and take action together.

If he were his opponent, Erugo would have given what he had to offer without resistance.

It may be difficult when Naho’s eyes are on, but now that he is in hibernation, Darian can sneak in here as well.

Why would you let a disciple you’ve raised so much go into a limb alone? It’s too much to be considered homework.

Darian is the only human in the Forest of Pahe that Erugo has not been able to control so far.

‘I guess I waited until the right time was right.’

This is the very center of Naho’s territory. I don’t know how Naho will come out if he notices his infiltration. Naho is an opponent that even Darian cannot guarantee victory over.

Records may be destroyed in the process. As Darian, whose lifespan was fading away, the battle with Naho would have been difficult to bear. He needed time to teach his students.

Since he couldn’t move freely, he would have had no choice but to leave it up to his disciple to take out the records. Until then, they had not shown any interest in the records.

‘Yes, it is time to die. Unless you live with the power of darkness like me! Even the sword saints of the world can’t help it.’

Erugo laughed inwardly. The biggest threat has completely disappeared.

Erugo smiled in remorse and held out his hand.

“Now, there is no need to be so cautious. “Let me make you a proposition.”

Erugo was already holding a thin booklet in his hands. Helmut’s eyes moved towards the booklet. The moment he was about to extend his hand, Erugo blocked him with his other hand.

“You. “How about becoming my successor and living in this village?”

“gibberish.”

Helmut frowned. It seemed absurd. Erugo spread his arms.

“If you are someone who has learned Darian’s swordsmanship, you are fully qualified. The guys here are all weak and lost. It’s useless. Now that I’m older, I’ll pass this place on to you. All the women here will be yours. Not just women, but everything! Naho, I will convince you. Think carefully.”

But Helmut flatly refused. The tip of his sword cut fresh blood on the nape of Erugo’s neck.

“I don’t need anything you give me.”

A sneer appeared on Erugo’s face.

“Do you mean to risk your life on meaningless hope?”

“I’m going to get out alive.”

It was a confident voice. If Helmut had thought he would die without being able to leave the forest, Darian would not have taught him the sword.

Even if there are no guarantees, there are things that must be done and accomplished. It is not an easy decision to be swayed by cunning whispers.

“Hand it over.”

Cold eyes drew a line at Erugo. If you do any more tricks than this, you will be cut down.

Erugo keenly sensed that line.

“Good good. “Okay, if that’s the case, I can’t do it.”

Helmut grabbed the booklet Erugo held out. As I opened the booklet while keeping an eye on Erugo’s movements, I noticed the delicately drawn map and writing inside.

“Listen. I accidentally found that record in a wizard’s hideout while exploring the forest before I settled here. He left a mark in hopes that other wizards would find his lair. But when I found him, he had already become a skeleton. Perhaps he desperately wanted to escape this place. He was a wizard skilled in stealth magic. I lived in hiding in the forest of Pahe to avoid the attention of monsters and researched ways to get out. Unfortunately, he died without being able to put his research into practice.”

“Is this place?”

Helmut touched the area marked with the letter x with his fingertip. There was a wave sign drawn there along with a red circle.

“A huge waterfall at the end of the dig. If you throw yourself into the waterfall, you can follow the current and pass the barrier. Just as water is not polluted by demon energy, it does not exclude the purifying energy of the barrier. In water, the strength of the barrier is weakened. “It will be powerful enough to shatter your body that contains the seeds of darkness.”

Helmut once again became aware of the Vis within his body. Vis to strengthen the body.

You have to hold on to the barrier without even being able to breathe in the fierce current.

‘It definitely won’t be easy.’

“I talked to Darian about this record in the past. I hoped that the person who wanted to destroy my village would either leave Pahe Forest or die while trying to leave. Because neither was a loss to me.”

However, Darian, who was the only one who knew about this record so far and had a high chance of success, gave up on digging. And that disciple was now in front of Erugo.

‘It will definitely fail.’

Erugo smiled kindly.

“This is all I know.”

“Okay, I’ve passed the method, so I’ll save you.”

Helmut said willingly. Although I think it’s okay to kill, I’ve learned that promises are kept.

And Darian did not want Erugo to die. He said this in our last conversation as well.

‘Unless it’s an unavoidable situation, it’s Erugoran. ‘Keep him alive.’

‘Why? He’s an evil warlock.’

Those who have power have a certain responsibility. Helmut learned about his duties. It is also important not to harm life carelessly.

However, Erugo is a villain who must be defeated, so he is not someone who should be harmed without reason.

‘That’s why. Although he is an evil warlock, there are people who survive because of him. Even being allowed to live like a livestock can be a luxury in this forest of Pahe. If you don’t want to take responsibility for those people, leave Erugo alive. He is a necessary evil. That’s also why I left him alone.’

‘What happens to those humans…’

If you don’t protect yourself in the forest of Pahe, you will die. If you are weak, it is natural to die.

Darian’s eyes became stern.

‘Do not take the weight of life lightly. ‘Didn’t you also survive because of that leopard’s mercy?’

That was right. Helmut closed his mouth and silently affirmed.

‘It’s annoying that you keep giving me bad looks, but I keep doing tricks.’

A promise is a promise. When he dies, Naho may appear. There was also a way to kill him slowly, but Helmut decided to leave him alive. Erugo was struck and fell to the floor.

“Huh! “What are you doing!”

A loud voice rang out. Helmut bound Erugo’s hands and tied them tightly to a pillar.

We know that simply tying down a wizard is not enough.

Helmut, who had pulled up Vis, put his finger on Erugo’s body and pierced several acupuncture points.

“Ugh!”

This made it impossible to use magic until the vis that blocked the passage through which magical power flowed for several hours dissipated.

It would take magic to call Naho out of hibernation.

For the few hours he was tied up with his magic blocked, Erugo was just an ordinary old man.

“You, this!”

“It will loosen up over time. “Live a good life from now on.”

Helmut left this as advice to Erugo, who looked dumbfounded, and immediately turned around.

Erugo was so angry that he quickly let out a roar.

“Do you think you can get out of the Forest of Pahe alive!”

He wasn’t afraid to take risks. If he thought he could succeed, Erugo would have tried first.

But he was convinced that the possibility of realization was slim.

A hundred people die. As a warlock, unless you have built up enough magical power to withstand the barrier.

It was close to impossible. Because it was that barrier that even the most powerful monsters in the Forest of Pahe could not penetrate.

Moreover,

‘Can you jump into that waterfall alive?’

There is one thing I didn’t say. You will find out only when you reach the end.

The warlock’s eyes flashed with dark malice.

But the cold-eyed boy glanced at him and turned his back.

Tap, tap, tap. I left his lab without hesitation.

As if Erugo was nothing more than a small rock caught at his foot.
